There is something awesome about a storm. The sheer power of a hurricane to demolish steel and concrete. A tornado can pick up an entire home and relocate it several yards away. A torrential rain will force outdoor actvity to a halt as we run for shelter.
Our lives have storms of their own don’t they? Some are relational storms, others might be financial, or health related. Still other storms may be too personal to share yet, like an emotional hurricane, have left our hearts crushed with life’s debris scattered all around.
When these storms come…and they WILL come…where will you run for shelter? The bible says that the very, “Name of the Lord is a strongtower, the righteous run to it and are safe.” If you’ve got a few storms brewing in your life…this series is for you!
Psalm 91 is a powerful Psalm that spells out the tremendous benefits there are in an intimate walk with God. He promises us protection, peace, heavenly power along with a promise of rescue…but there is a condition! We must choose to pursue Him and to love him.
Do you ever feel as though maybe God…”Has left the building?” That with all the chaos in your life, surely God is absent? But then we look around and it appears that God is doing powerful things in the lives of others. so then we begin to think that maybe it’s not that God is absent, it is ust that He doesn’t care about us.
When these storms of chaos and doubt come where do we run? that is the topic that we take up in this message as we explore the Shelter of God’s sovereignty.
“You made you bed now you have to lie in it!…”Be sure your sins will find you out!”…”You reap what you sow!” How many times have we heard these statements before? There is great truth in much of these little says, but what happens when the storms of our own making begin to beat against us? Are we just destined to ride them out? Is there no shelter for our self-induced storms?

Have you noticed that some storms leave such a wake that it is impossible to put things back like they were? New Orleans will never be the same…that doesn’t mean it won’t be as good, in fact it may even be better than before…but it has been changed forever! Some storms in life are similar. a crippling illness, the tragic death of a loved one, the total failure of a business from which there is no recovery.

Why can’t life be easy? Why can’t the weather of our life be like California… you know…sunny 75 degrees with a nice breeze! Yeah that’s how life should be!! No problems! The only problem is LIFE ISN’T LIKE THAT!
But our storms do serve a very essential piece to our lives. Just as though a grain of sand in a clam shell will irritate sufficiently enough that a Pearl will result…so do our storms produce valuable commodities also!
